Project
Designing and building a high-fidelity prototype app with Vue.js
The Planter app assists parents with children plan activities by providing pre-planned activity ideas that specifically utilize playful plants.
Featuring a “plant of the day”, users are able to use the provided information, where to find it, and participate in activity suggestions to better integrate nature in their children’s outdoor play-spaces.
Context
The Problem
The “Playful Plants” project at Cornell aims to encourage children to engage with nature through playful interactions in play spaces and public gardens. The problem at hand asked developers to develop a progressive web app (PWA) that adds value to the “Playful Plants” project by utilizing its plant database to promote children play in nature and inform users on nature knowledge and related spaces.
Our resolution
We designed and programmed a high-fidelity interactive prototype using Vue.js that allows users to receive a plant of the day and suggested activities based off the plant. Users are also able to save images taken during their activity in a gallery to view past memories of previous activities performed.
The Users
Design Ideation
Our user group consisted of parents who looked to enhance their own and their children’s development through interactive plant-based activities.
Based off user interviews, we were able to summarize our key findings as:
Some parents find planning outdoor activities for their children to be helpful because it alleviates stress and helps the day run more smoothly.
Parents find that planning outdoor activities ahead of time is a good way to ensure that quality family time is had.
Parents may find difficulty in planning activities that are suitable for their children of different ages.
Parents have little knowledge of plants, which introduces another difficulty in planning outdoor activities.
Based off user insights gained from our user interviews, various iterations were promptly sketched.
